Texas Shows That Racing Comes Before Family
04/07/2008
By Salem Yoku KwikCom Media
When the Silthouse family goes to the tracks on the AORL
MFC Cup Series curcuit its not your average family outing! Week in and week out Jerry & James Silthouse, who are father
and son respectively, fight to finish in front of each other, well this week it took a turn for the worse. James was coming
to the inside of his father Jerry on lap 156 of 175 laps going into turn 2 and they began their battle for the 5th spot for
nearly 12 laps. Suddenly on lap 168 Jerry moved down into the #99 driven by his son, causing James to spin around out of control
and into the outside wall of turn 1! James hopped out of his wrecked car and walked along the apron until his fathers car
came into glimpse right in front of him, James then tore his helmet off and threw it at his fathers # 1 BrentThom Racing Chevrolet.
The father-son combonation exchanged words through the window net of Jerry's car before an AORL official jumped in between
them. KwikCom Media reporters caught up with James following the incident,"He's just an idiot! He doesn't deserve to be out
there on that track! It's just ******* crazy, he comes down on me and strikes the side of my car going into the corner for
no reason, no reason at all! I am his son and you think there would be a little more respect on that end but I guess not!
Maybe that is why he isn't on my team and driving for that piss poor team he is with! He better watch out next week at Pheonix!"
Jerry was also reached for comment following the race,"I am very sorry for him to have wrecked out like that. I didn't hear
what he had to say in the interview afterward but I'm sure it wasn't very nice. He just needs to learn to hold on to the car
a little better and he'll be fine. I thought a tire went down when I struck his car because the wheel just all of a sudden
gave me a jerk but it turns out it was fine, I have no idea what happened. I understand his frustration and it doesn't bother
me a bit that he showed his anger afterward by throwing that helmet and yelling in my face a little bit! That's racing boys
and stuff like that is going to happen. Now I'm sure he'll get over it within the next couple of weeks, we will sit down and
talk it out, after all we are family. I don't know for sure what is going to come of it with AORL or anything but I'm sure
we will be asked to come to the trailer later on." AORL President Jesse Martin stated,"James and Jerry have been asked to
visit myself in the trailer later this week. Since Jerry is the Head Official, I don't believe that he should have any influence
on the punishments handed out in this situation as he usually would. I can assure you that the appropriate measures will be
taken and this kind of situation will not happen again for a long period of time."
